Last Friday, we had a very special visitor arrive at our school when Mr Harnan brought his family's new lamb to meet the children.

The lamb was an instant hit with everyone! The children were fascinated to learn about how young lambs are cared for and had the opportunity to help prepare her milk and feed her. There were lots of questions as the children learned about life on the farm and the importance of looking after animals.

Of course, the lamb also enjoyed exploring her surroundings and had great fun stretching her legs on the Cloonlyon pitch! The children loved watching her run around and were delighted to spend time with such a friendly visitor.

It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience and a memorable day for all involved. A huge thank you to Mr Harnan for bringing the lamb to visit us and sharing his knowledge with the children. 🐑💚

As the Leaving Certificate examinations begin, everyone in Cloonlyon NS would like to wish all of our former pupils, along with all students sitting their exams, the very best of luck in the days and weeks ahead.

This is the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. While exams are important, remember that they are just one part of your journey. Trust in the effort you have put in, believe in yourself, and take each day one step at a time.

We are incredibly proud of all our past pupils and look forward to seeing where the next chapter takes you.

​On Thursday 21st, we were delighted to welcome artist Maeve Clancy to Cloonlyon NS for a very special art workshop as part of our Creative Schools journey.

Maeve was fantastic with the children and encouraged them to slow down, observe carefully, and really notice the details in the world around them. Throughout the day, the children explored a variety of artistic techniques and learned the importance of looking closely before putting pencil or paint to paper.

The workshop began with the children drawing their non-dominant hand, a challenging but enjoyable exercise that encouraged careful observation and attention to detail. From there, they moved on to sketching flowers, grasses, and other natural objects, taking time to study shapes, lines, and textures.

The final activity saw the children working in pairs to create watercolour portraits of one another. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experimented with colour, brush techniques, and capturing the unique features of their partners.

The children thoroughly enjoyed every part of the day and produced some beautiful work. More importantly, they learned valuable skills about observation, creativity, and artistic expression.

A huge thank you to Maeve for sharing her time, expertise, and enthusiasm with us. We were incredibly fortunate to have her guide the children through such a memorable and inspiring day of art. 🌟🎨

​Last Wednesday, Cloonlyon NS was filled with music, energy, and excitement as we hosted a very special Music Generation day.

Our music teacher Zane was joined by guest musicians Kief and Brian, who brought a wonderful mix of instruments including piano, drums, and electric guitar. We were also delighted to welcome pupils and staff from Barnacogue National School and Tavneena National School, making it a fantastic celebration of music and community.

Throughout the day, the children enjoyed singing, dancing, listening, and performing. There was a wonderful atmosphere in the hall as pupils from all three schools came together to share their love of music and showcase the skills they have been developing.

One of the highlights of the day was the children's ukulele performances. Over the past two years, Zane has worked with the pupils to develop their confidence and ability on the instrument, and it was fantastic to see their hard work on display. The children performed with great enthusiasm and confidence, showing just how much they have learned.

The day was a wonderful celebration of creativity, teamwork, and musical talent. It was lovely to see children from different schools coming together, supporting one another, and enjoying the opportunity to perform.

A huge thank you to Zane, Kief, and Brian for providing such an enjoyable and memorable experience for all our pupils. 🎵✨

​Small Schools League – Round 4 ⚽☀️

Last Wednesday, 27th May, Cloonlyon NS was delighted to host Round 4 of the Small Schools League, welcoming pupils and staff from Barnacogue National School, Tavneena National School, and Tavrane National School.

With one of the hottest and sunniest days of the year, the stage was set for a fantastic afternoon of football. The children from all four schools played with great enthusiasm, skill, and sportsmanship, providing a feast of football for everyone in attendance.

As this was the final round of the group stages, there was plenty of excitement and determination on display as teams competed before the league final, which will take place during the final week of the school year.

The football was only part of the fun! After the matches, the children enjoyed some well-earned ice cream and were treated to delicious Rice Krispie buns, kindly made by the Junior Room. These were a huge hit with players and supporters alike!

Most importantly, the day was a wonderful celebration of friendship, participation, and community. It was fantastic to see children from all four schools enjoying sport together in such a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
