Last Thursday, 22nd September, some of the pupils of 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th class took part in the regional cross country event in Swinford Golf Course. We had 6 pupils on each team with a team entered into the 3rd & 4th class boys and girls and teams in the 5th & 6th class boys and girls races.
This year all of the entrants in 3rd & 4th had to run 1,000 metres and 5th & 6th had to run 1,200 metres. With tough ground conditions all the participants did themselves and the school very proud. We were lucky to have two individual runners qualify for Ballina, in the 3rd & 4th class boys and 5th & 6th class girls. We were also lucky to have our 3rd & 4th class girls team qualify, finishing in third position on the day. All of us in the school wish those taking part in Ballina on the 29th September the very best of luck Friday 23rd September was a very special day in Cloonlyon NS. That morning Luke Murphy of Connacht Rugby brought the Pro12 trophy to the school. There was huge excitement when the trophy was wheeled in into the GP Room in its protective case. Luke spoke about the sense of pride all over Connacht following the victory over Leinster in the final. He explained how aware the players were of the fact that they were representing all five Connacht counties A few lucky pupils got to hold the trophy which weighs about 8kg. Pride of place among the pictures on display went to the photo of the Junior Room pupils sporting John Muldoon beards in the last school term! Thanks to Sinead and Fiona Halligan who were responsible for the visit and to all the children who dressed up/ brought in Connacht banners and flags. Hopefully another significant trophy will return to Mayo soon. |
