The children were fascinated as Zane explained how the kokle is played and how its gentle strings can make such lovely, calming sounds. They listened carefully as he demonstrated different tones and melodies, and were amazed at how the same instrument could produce so many distinct sounds.
Then it was the children’s turn! Each pupil had the chance to explore the kokle, plucking the strings and experimenting with pitch, rhythm, and volume. There were lots of smiles and curious faces as the children created their own little tunes.
It was a wonderful hands-on music lesson that introduced the children not only to a new instrument, but also to a piece of Latvian culture. A huge thank you to Zane for sharing this beautiful musical tradition with us. 🎵
