The children discovered that when something blocks the light from the sun, a shadow is made on the ground. Working in pairs, the children used chalk to draw around the shadows made by their classmates, trees, and different objects from the yard. They noticed that shadows change shape and size depending on where the sun is in the sky.
There was lots of excitement as the children watched their shadows move when they wiggled or jumped! It was a hands-on way to learn about how light travels and how shadows are formed.
This outdoor investigation helped everyone to see that science is all around us, even in our playground! 🌞🖍️
