The children had great fun in science this week learning all about our sense of taste and how our taste buds work. We discovered that our tongues can recognise different flavours — sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.
To put our learning into action, we carried out a tasting experiment! The children got to try a variety of foods that matched each flavour. There were plenty of surprised faces when they tasted something sour or bitter, and lots of smiles for the sweet and salty samples.
This hands-on investigation helped everyone understand how our taste buds send messages to our brains, helping us know what flavours we like (and which ones make us pull funny faces!).
