Hi there, I was in contact with you before Chrismtas with regards to Skip for SKIP - a skipping event that The Down Syndrome Centre is running with schools across Ireland and I just wanted to check in with you to see if this event is something your school would be interested in hosting? SKIP is one of the many vital intervention services we provide in The Down <http://www.downsyndromecentre.ie/>Syndrome Centre <http://www.downsyndromecentre.ie/>. SKIP (which stands for Special Kids' Intervention Programme) aims to get young children with Down syndrome ready to attend mainstream schools. Each SKIP session targets all areas of each child’s development such as speech and language, fine motor skills, gross motor skills and most of all social skills. These skills allow each child to make friends, participate fully in class and live a more independent life. We’re asking schools and community groups to support our SKIP programme by hosting a skipathon before the end of the academic year (whenever suits you!). Down syndrome is usually caused by a duplication of the 21st Chromosome so we’re asking students to skip for 21 minutes either on their own or as part of a team and to collect sponsorship for their efforts. Many schools have chosen to take part as part of the active flag application. If you'd like more information about this event contact me on (01) 661 8000 or by responding to this email. Many thanks, Aileen -- *Aileen Moon* Fundraising and Events Coordinator The Down Syndrome Centre Unit 1, 88/89 Furze Road, Sandyford, Dublin 18 Tel: (01) 6618000 |
