Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
Interactive White Boards (IWB's)
All classrooms are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards (IWB's). All the whiteboards have internet access and are connected to the central server in the school, where children's and teacher's work are stored securely. The IWB's do not replace good teaching but it can provide exciting and engaging new ways to help learn and explore the curriculum.
Laptops
Each teacher is currently equipped with a teaching laptop. We have also purchased, over a number of years, a further 12 laptops for use by our pupils. This allows pupils to develop personal digital and technological skills while also integrating this technological tool with every aspect of the curriculum.
Above you can see some of our children working on computers as part of our ICT classes
iPod Touch
The school has 12 iPod Touch devices which are loaded with a variety of app's relevant to primary school children.
Digital Cameras
Currently every class has a digital camera for use by the children and teacher. Not Only is this a great tool for recording activities, but they are also used for capturing experiments, pupil's work and events. Senior children create their own storyboards & Power Point presentations using these digital cameras.
Internet Safety & Acceptable Use Policy
High priority is given to the safe and correct use of ICT in our school by pupils and school staff . All pupils and parents are asked to sign our Acceptable Use Policy on enrolment.
Developing an IT Curriculum
We are currently in the stages of developing a specific IT curriculum for our school whereby pupils from Junior Infants up to 6th class will learn specific IT skills that will assist them in the 21st century workplace and provide a baseline of IT skills.
