Timetables for yard zones so pupils can experience a variety of different activities whatever the weather!
6. Use of Sports Equipment during break times
Pupils have access to and are responsible for racquets, hockey sticks, jumping balls and hula hoops. There are also basketballs, footballs, handballs, and a rebounder. We have also included a new activity station for pupils to engage in personal fitness goals. Pupils have been trained in these exercises.
7. Playground Leaders
We train the 5th and 6th Class pupils as Playground Leaders. They have a selection of games to choose from that they can teach and play with the Infants. They also organise dancing with Go Noodle on wet days.
8. Active School Walkway
We have a walkway to mark out our running route. Seven laps make one kilometre.
11. Classroom Based Physical Activity
Pupils enjoying a game of Twister on a wet day.
12. Non-Competitive running
Cloonlyon NS set up a Running Club in September. All pupils run 1 kilometre every Monday, Tuesday and Friday and are almost at the 2,500 km mark! At every 500km milestone, the whole school is rewarded with a night off homework!
13. Incorporating Physical activity into School Events
As part of our Green Schools Travel Theme, we had a Scary walk at Halloween, a 'Bling your Hi-Viz' competition for our Christmas Walk and a workshop on looking after your bicycle.
School Tours to Achill Adventure Centre and this year to Go Sports are an example of how we use tour opportunities to introduce the children to bew activities.
15. Physical Activity as Reward
Pupils earn extra outdoor play time for good behaviour e.g. lining up after break, putting away equipment appropriately etc.
16. 60 Minutes Physical Activity Challenge
Samples of Pupils sheets. The third term challenge to be completed by the end of May.
