Runners from 3rd to 6th class, both boys and girls, took part in the local Cross Country Running event which was held in Swinford Golf Club.
At the start of the 2014/15 school year, pupil from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class were entered into a cross country running race. All the pupils were training for a few weeks before the race with Mr Haran after school. After the last training session the teams were picked.
The teams for third and fourth class boys was made up of Daniel Harrington, Michael Maran, Brian Gallagher, Michael Gallagher and James Kennedy. Third and Fourth class girls team was made up of Maolíosa Durcan, Rebecca Peyton, Megan McDonnell, Caitlin Kelly, Éire McCormack and Megan Moran.
5th and 6th were in a separate race and the boys teams was made up of Niall Fleming, Kevin McCormack, Tomas Goldrick, James Conway and I. On the girl’s team was Leah O’Grady, who ran on her own.
All the runners and Mr Haran went to Swinford Golf Course to run in the local area cross country competition. The third and fourth class girls were in the first race, and then it was the third and fourth class boys. After those two races were finished it was fifth and sixth class girls turn, followed by the fifth and sixth class boys.
The top twelve runners of each category in every race alongside three teams went through to the County Cross Country Competition. I came second in Swinford, the local area competition, so that meant I went on to race in Ballina. Unfortunately I didn't get through from Ballina so that meant I didn't progress to the Connachts. The whole thing was really enjoyable and fun to take part in and was a great experience
