There has been a band in Cloonlyon NS continuously since the early 1970's. The tin whistle, accordion and glockenspiel are taught from 1st class upwards by the school staff.
The band has continued its musical tradition playing at parades in Toreen, Swinford, Aclare and most recently Charlestown since the revival of the town's parade.
In addition, the children have played music and sung in St Anne's and St Attracta's Nursing Homes, the school's own 100th and 125th celebrations, football matches, Special Olympics events, Ireland West Airport sod turning and the official opening event as well as at the airports Christmas Fair.
In 2013 the usual traditional instruments were replaced with samba drums and bells for a special treat for the pupils and their audience.
A recital of music takes place every year before Christmas Eve Mass and after St Patrick's Day Mass
