This week saw heritage expert Clare Doyle visit the junior and senior rooms in Cloonlyon NS. Clare, who has Mayo and Monaghan roots, gave both age groups an insight into the importance of getting to know our family, school and community history. Of particular interest were the details she gave about workhouses during the period from 1840-50, a topic currently being studied in the school.
Cloonlyon NS had the honour of leading the Charlestown 2018 St. Patrick’s Day parade. Samba music and vibrant colours from the pupils of Cloonlyon NS warmed the crowd on an otherwise fresh St. Patrick’s Day. The Cloonlyon NS samba band led by Mrs Michael created a backdrop of resounding music for the warmly clad winter Olympians. The tri-coloured bob sleigh created much excitement and bemused glances. The hard work of the pupils, teachers and the Parents’ Association was justly rewarded by winning 1st prize. Congratulations to all involved
