We were lucky enough to have two teams entered today made up of girls from fourth to sixth class. Team 1 was entered in Group 1 and Team 2 was entered in Group 2.
Team 2 played some excellent camogie winning 1, drawing one and losing 1 games. Team 1 also produced some excellent camogie winning 3 of their 4 scheduled games and progressing to the final without the need to play their final game, notching up wins against Toreen NS, KIlmovee NS and Dernabroc NS.
With play postponed for a short time due to torrential rain Team 1 took to the field against Knockanillo NS. With the game very tight for the outset, the deadlock was broken before half time with a well worked goal. As the second half began Knockanillo NS pushed for goals and points but were held out due to the hard work of our goalie Saoirse Kelly and back-line of Caitlin Kelly and Leah Cawley,
With the game ebbing with great interlinking play between the midfield partnership of Megan McDonnell and Maolíosa Durcan and forwards Megan Moran and Zoe McDonnell, the girls pushed hard and came up with a great score halfway through the second half which would ultimately seal the victory. Laura O'Toole came on to keep the pressure on Knockanillo NS goals until the final whistle.
It was fantastic to see the girls put in so much effort and come away with a much deserved victory. All of the girls who participated should be so proud of how they represented their school. A massive thank you to the girls who have put in a lot of training prior to the competition this week.
