Well done to our 5th and 6th class students who showcased their Peace Package at the Junior Entrepreneur All-Ireland Showcase Day in the RDS.
The showcase is a celebration of entrepreneurship and this year 220 schools showcased their projects. It was a great day for everyone and it was a great chance to meet some of Ireland’s most famous entrepreneurs and some of RTE’s top stars. Great credit is due to 5th and 6th class, Mr. Haran and Ms. Higgins for all of their hard work with the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. We would also like to thank our Dragons- Lisa Finn of CMS Distributions Kiltimagh, Leo Forkan of Mayo Health Care Westport, Ms Fahy, and also our visiting entrepreneur Donal Byrne, for all of their support. The whole process was a wonderful experience. Congratulations again to the 5th and 6th class. It is a great achievement and a proud day for all of us in Cloonlyon. As the children of the middle room have been looking at civilisations in South, Central and North America, for art this week the children produced dream catchers which were created by the native american people.
Last Sunday, the fifth and sixth class children celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation alongside Charlestown NS, Tavneena NS and Barnacogue NS. From the early morning of the 12th of May, the sun shone as the Church of St James welcomed everyone for this special occasion.
The children welcomed their immediate and extended families as well as their sponsors to their Confirmation last Sunday. The church was alive with excitement as the sacrament of Confirmation is regarded as a very important sacrament for the children. They are blessed with the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit which will help to guide them as they develop and grow. We would like to thank Fr. Johnston and Fr. Doherty who confirmed the children. A huge well done to Mr Haran and the fifth and sixth class children as much hard work, time and preparation was afforded to this ceremony. The children created many pieces of art work and their scrapbooks. They also prepared prayers and songs, all of which were preformed so well at mass on Sunday. Everyone at Cloonlyon NS is tremendously proud of our newly confirmed fifth and sixth classes. We wish them the very best as they venture through life following the path that God has set for them. Last Friday our boys and girls gaelic football teams took part in the local area Cumann na mBunscoil competitions in Charlestown Sarsfields GAA pitch. There were three schools involved on the day - Carracastle, Kilmovee and Cloonlyon.
The day began with the boys playing Carracastle who they defeated. They then played Kilmovee who, despite some great performances, they unfortunately lost to. The boys team put in an excellent effort and were runners up on the day. In the girls competition, they played Kilmovee in the semi-final. After a great game, the girls defeated Kilmovee progressing to the final where they played Carracastle. A huge effort from all the girls resulted in them winning the final to take home the perpetual shield. It was a wonderful day packed with entertaining matches and great performances. Well done to all who took part. Cloonlyon Abú! |
