We had a lovely mass in Bushfield Church this morning to celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception. The pupils provided the choir for the mass and received a round of applause from the congregation at the end of mass to acknowledge the beautiful singing and playing throughout. During mass Fr Doherty also thanked the pupils for providing lovely music. Well done to all the pupils for being so respectful throughout and for taking such an active part in the mass. Some pupils even braved the cold weather and walked back to school afterwards!

December has arrived so we can finally start preparing for Christmas. Miss Higgins and the 6th class pupils have been very busy putting up the crib and Christmas tree inside the front door. The crib reminds everyone of the true meaning of Christmas and the decorating of the tree is a long held Christmas tradition. There will be lots of Christmas based activities throughout the month of December.
All classes are busy rehearsing for our Christmas show which takes place on Monday, December 18th. We don't want to give too much away but there will be a wide variety of talent on show! Pupils in the junior room have been learning all about Oscar Wilde's classic short story 'The Selfish Giant over the past few weeks. A lovely connection to the school is that it was first published around about the same time as the school first opened - 130 years ago! The children really enjoyed listening to the story and also creating their own poems about the giant and how he changed during the story. Did you know that when drawing a person's face you should position the eyes in line with the top of the ears. This is one of the many things pupils in the middle room learned during art class during the past number of weeks. The pupils had great fun learning all about proportion and shape in faces as well as drawing faces themselves. We think you'll agree that the results are pretty spectacular. Well done everybody, talented artists on show!
As part of the schools programme to develop pupil interest in Science, Maths and Computational Thinking in particular, the senior room pupils got to use the bee boots for the first time last week. The bee bots are mini robots that can be programmed to travel in certain directions and over different distances. There are a series of hands on tasks involved which teach directionality, planning, sequencing, counting, and working together. There is much talk and discussion stimulated as various theories are worked on.
Over the next few weeks all classes and pupils will get an opportunity to problem solve using the bee bots. Given the enthusiasm of the first users, there are some ineteresting times in store! |
