Cloonlyon's Marching Band took part in the parade in Charlestown this year. They looked and sounded wonderful as they marched in the parade accompanied by teachers, parents and friends. The parade consisted of great floats, dancers, and much more. Well done to all involved.

The school band have been working hard with Mr. Haran, practicing in sunshine and rain, in preparation for the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Charlestown this Sunday.
The residents of the Cloonlyon area have had the pleasure of listening to the school band as they practiced their tunes in the environs of the school. The students are very excited and can't wait to participate in the parade on Sunday. See you there! As part of The Blue Star Programme Lisa Chambers was invited to visit the school and speak to the pupils about her work as a politician, and her work in regards to Europe.
Her visit was a great opportunity for the pupils to learn about the EU in a practical, personable way. Lisa was very informative and spoke about how the EU works, about the European Parliament and the European Commission, how the different institutions cooperate with each other and the impact of the EU on the lives of Irish people. She also discussed European issues and how they affect Ireland, in particular Brexit. Lisa spoke of all the hard work her job entails and the necessity to take care of yourself, especially your mental health. Lisa was gifted a Peace Package created by the students of 5th and 6th class as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme, aimed to support positive mental health. Lisa answered many questions and her visit was greatly appreciated by all. Every year the pupils of Cloonlyon National School celebrate World Book Day. Children came to school dressed up as their favourite character from a story. Everyone put in a great effort and looked wonderful!
Lots of reading-based activities took place such as ‘buddy reading’ and Drop Everything and Read time (DEAR). Children also presented their favourite books and read stories that they had written themselves. All pupils received a book voucher that they can reclaim against the purchase of a book in local bookshops. |
