Highlights from the League Final where Team's 5 & 6 battled it out in a thrilling game.

'We were delighted to welcome Lukasz from Green Schools who spent the morning with the Infant and First Classes explaining the difficulties some children from other parts of the world face when tryingto get to school. It was an interesting and thought provoking presentation which made us all realise how lucky we are. Lukasz then practiced 'Travel Yoga' with us. Let the pictures do the talking! 

Taking on the teachers has now become an established part of Active School Week in Cloonlyon. Running, javelin, basketball and soccer tested the endurance of all! Many thanks to the pupils who helped their teachers out when it all got too much!

PS The teachers won the penalty shoot out. Good work Ms. Hennigan and Ms. Higgins!

WE were delighted to welcome Shay Reilly, a coach in the Ballyhaunis Table Tennis Club and a neighbour of the school. First to Fifth Class got some fantastic pointers and a taste for the game that will hopefully see the development of the sport in Cloonlyon next Winter.

Despite the inclement weather, Sports Day went ahead using classrooms, corridors, and any other sheltered space available! Activities included skipping, shooting basketball hoops, limbo dancing, long jump, wall ball, solos, and cooperation games such as Cross the River and tasks using our trusty parachute!

When the sun came out in the afternoon, we managed to have a few 'Spud & Spoon' races too!

St Patrick's NS, Cloonlyon, has been awarded an unprecedented five flags for achievements in five different areas. The school was awarded the Active Flag for the third time and the Amber Flag for the second time. It was also awarded a flag for its continuing participation in the Junior Entrepreneurship Programme. For the first time, it has been awarded a Blue Star Flag for exploring the cultures of other EU nations and how the EU works. Finally, it was awarded the 5 Star GAA Flag for implementing a programme teaching GAA skills and promoting physical activity and fun for all.
 Cloonlyon NS was delighted to welcome back two of it’s past pupils to help raise the flags. Patrick Goldrick, who recently played for the Mayo U-20’s football team and Niall Fleming who lines out as goalkeeper for the Mayo U-17’s hurlers, assisted with the celebrations. The event was also used to mark the launch of our annual Active School Week with a very exciting Air Guitar Competition! 

We were delighted today to welcome Rita Mulligan to our class. For the past number of weeks, as part of our Aistear, the Infants and First Class have been learning about working in an international airport. Rita, who is mum of Ava in First Class, is a security guard in Ireland West International Airport. We had a fantastic Q & A session with the children where she answered a dizzying array of questions! We learned a huge amount about the work of a security guard at an airport and why their work is so important. Thank you Rita for making the time to come and talk to us. 

An expedition  by train to Ballina, that was the Infants & First Class tour today- and for some it was their first time on a train! Cloonlyon NS are working towards their 11th Green Schools Flag, exploring how we can be more green in how we travel. The pupils have been learning how using available public transport options are an important step in reducing our carbon footprint. 

Pupils boarded McCanns Bus, went to Ballyhaunis Train Station, boarded the  train to Westport, changed at Manulla Junction, then hopped on the train to Ballina! A very busy morning indeed! Then a quick bus ride to Belleek Woods where the pupils went on a Fairy Trail Hunt - searching for clues and finding lots of fun! All pupils and staff had a great day out. Lunch on a train is much more fun than lunch in school!
