On Wednesday the boys and girls of 3rd & 4th class took part in the East Mayo Futsal competition held in the Charlestown Complex.
The boys and girls both came out eventual winners after progressing from two tough groups with both finals being hotly contested. The boys progressed through their group with victories over St. Attracta's, Kilmovee and Straide NS. They played Craggagh NS in the final. A very close affair the boys of Cloonlyon NS pulled away in the second half to come out on top. The girls played Carramore and Craggagh NS in their group, progressing to the final where they faced off against a tough Straide Side. With momentum swinging from side to side it wasn't until late in the game where the girls pulled it from the fire with two late goals. With a fantastic day had by all children, teachers and schools a massive thanks has to go to Paul Byrne of FAI Mayo for organising the event. Our girls took part in the Mayo Futsal competition held on Friday 27th January, which took place in Breaffy House Sports Hall, Castlebar. This was a great day for all the girls. We played three games in total.
Game 1: Our first game was a very tough encounter against Bekan NS, who went on to win out our group. We ended up losing this game but the girls played really well and were unlucky to miss some chances. Game 1: Our second game was a thrilling game against Balla NS which went from end to end for the entire game. The score finished 2-1 to Cloonlyon with goals from Abby and Caoimhe, who riffled the ball into the top corner. As a result of this we finished 2nd in our group and went on to play in the 3rd/4th place playoff. Game 3: We played Killala NS and again this was a really competitive game going from end to end. The game was tied a one a piece until the last two minutes when Killala NS scored the winner. All at Cloonlyon NS are so proud of the girls and the hard work they put in and also a massive thanks to the parents who traveled and supported the girls this was really appreciated. |
