Thanks to all the children who contributed to this edition of the Cloonlyon Copy.
On Friday last we celebrated the recent awarding of our ninth Green Flag and our second Active School Flag. Our green flag was raised by Joe McDonnell, caretaker, who does a fantastic job in keeping our school looking it's best. Our active schools flag was raised by two past pupils Brendan McCormack and Conor O'Toole. They have had an amazing sporting year, having been part of the teams who won the Juvenile Connacht title and the Senior All Ireland title with St. Joseph's.
We had a lovely afternoon with the children showcasing some of their sporting talents, followed of course by some cake eating! Many thanks to all the children, parents, members of our community and Ms. Sharon Cameron (Mayo County Council) who came to celebrate with us. Also, a huge thanks to Mr. Haran and the green schools committee and to Mrs. Michael and the active schools committee who have done tremendous work. It was an extraordinary day for the pupils of the four schools from Charlestown parish as they got two meet an exceptional person, Vice President Joe Biden. The expectation of the children was only surpassed by the reality of a man who was completely child friendly , relaxed and willing to devote time to speak to the young people who probably had little concept of his stature. But that wasn’t his agenda. He and his family members connected with the children in a very pleasant and interested manner leaving children with memories worth sharing. It was an amazing day in so many ways. Thank you to all who helped make it so memorable. To top off a really special day, Ireland beat Italy 1-0. We would like to invite all grandparents, parents and community members to join us as we raise our 9th green flag and our 2nd active schools flag, this Friday the 17th at 2p.m. The children will be showcasing some of their skills and fun activities undertaken throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you all there.
