The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has recently published four short guides for parents on children’s data protection rights under the GDPR. These guides are intended to help parents to understand their children’s rights and to answer questions that can arise in typical situations where those rights apply.

By sharing these videos with out school community we hope this will help to ensure that more parents have the opportunity to read them and learn about their children’s data protection rights. The DPC hopes that these guides will also be useful to school educators and anyone interested in children’s safety and wellbeing online.

My child’s data protection rights – the basics
This outlines some of the issues that can arise when a parent seeks to exercise data protection rights on behalf of their child.

Children’s data and parental consent
This looks at the meaning of the ‘age of digital consent’ and outlines when parents’ consent may be needed for processing their child’s personal data, and how parents can approach those cases.

Protecting my child’s data
This is intended to help parents understand the rights that they have in relation to their children’s data and gives some useful advice on how to protect their children’s rights.

Are there any limits on my child’s data protection rights?
This outlines some important limits to how and when children’s data protection rights may be exercised, whether by children themselves or by parents on their behalf. It outlines some common situations where these can arise and suggests ways in which parents can address them.

Congratulation to the children of Cloonlyon and Barnacogue who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday. It was a great occasion enjoyed by all. A huge thanks must go to the choir also for their efforts on the day. This was not just made up of children from Cloonlyon NS, but parents, past pupils and friends. 

Thanks to Ms. Michael and Ms. Brennan and all the children of the junior who helped in the preparation for First Holy Communion. 

Today the pupils of 4th - 6th class visited the Museum of Country Life Mayo where the partook in a Mini-beasts workshop as part of the Natural History Museum education program. 

They looked at the types of insect and invertebrate life that were living in the waterways and areas around the Museum of Country Life. This involved taking samples from the water and examining in the special laboratory under magnifying class to identify their features and help identify specimens correctly. 

The children had a great day put and learned loads about the mini beasts that co-exist with us in the countryside. 

Huge congratulations to our 5th and 6th class pupils who made their Confirmation on May 13th in St James' Church Charlestown alongside pupils from Charlestown, Tavneena and Barnacogue. Above our confirmants are pictures with Bishop Paul Dempsey and school principal Mr Haran. 

We would all like to extend out thanks to Mr McGuire, Parents and Fr. Johnston who helped prepare the children for the big day. 

Hard luck to our Girls team who were beaten in the area final today by Craggagh NS. It was a fantastic performance and the girls kept going until the very end. All at Cloonlyon NS are so proud of how you represented the school.
