Pupils from seomra 2 and seomra 3 travelled to Ireland West Airport on Friday evening last 27th May to perform at the airports 30th anniversary celebrations. The school's band has a long association with the airport going back 35 years to the sod-turning ceremony and later to the official opening ceremony.
At the entrance to the departures area, the pupils performed their strongly rhythmical samba band set followed afterwards by a traditional Irish and folk music selection.
The music was the subject of much positive comment from the invited guests, many of whom paused to listen and applaud the musicians. For older adults present the guest list included many non political figures associated with the development of the Airport such as Aine Mahon, James and Mary O Donohue, Frank Harrington and former RTE reporter Jim Fahy as well as current staff members who have been with the airport from its beginning.
Jim Fahy kindly gave an interview to the school's 'film crew' shortly after his arrival and was fulsome in his praise of the leadership of Monsignor Horan in the airport project. Thanks to all the parents who brought the children to and from the school as well as the school staff who came along to support the band.
