For the third year in a row, the Cloonlyon NS ' A' team captured the county mixed Spikeball title with a clean sweep of wins. In a well organised event today in the CBD complex, the team saw off the challenge of five teams to retain their title with the most challenging game played out against near neighbours St Attracta's NS who also qualified for the county finals in early March in Loughrea.
Great credit is due to the Transition Year pupils from St Joseph's Community College and their teacher Ms Leydon, who with their usual efficiency had everything so well organised from start to finish. Thanks also to the TY mentors who have contributed so much to the fun, skill and enjoyment during their time in the school.
Well done also to the Cloonlyon 'B' team who reached the semi-final of their section. The Cloonlyon girls team was unlucky not to reach the knockout section of the competition, after a number of keenly contested games, but they will have gained a lot from their participation in the games. As the pupils progress to second level education, they will no doubt carry these sporting skills with them.
